Jozankei Hospital is a hospital specializing in chronic care medicine, located in the Jozankei Onsen area within Shikotsu-Toya National Park. Since its founding in 1981, the hospital has operated three ward functions—a community comprehensive care ward, a disability ward, and a medical care ward—with a total of 280 beds, accepting patients across a wide range of conditions and age groups. Of particular note is the hospital's 1999 "Declaration of Abolition of Physical Restraints," making it a national pioneer in achieving zero physical restraints, a commitment it continues to uphold today. Approximately 70 rehabilitation therapists provide individualized rehabilitation, supported by well-developed multidisciplinary care aimed at functional recovery. A specialized "Frailty Clinic" has been established to assess and prevent frailty—the physical and mental decline associated with aging—while dentists and speech-language therapists collaborate to help maintain patients' oral and swallowing functions. A defining feature of the care environment is the use of natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source in the bathing facilities, allowing patients to recuperate in a richly natural setting. The hospital also actively provides home care services, including home medical visits, home rehabilitation, and home nursing, to support patients in continuing life in their familiar communities. English language assistance, credit card and electronic payment options, parking, and barrier-free facilities are all available.
