Ogasawara Village Clinic, located on Chichijima in Ogasawara Village approximately 1,000km south of Tokyo, is a village-run clinic specializing in internal medicine. Operating under unique geographical conditions with a ferry running once every six days and requiring 25.5 hours one way, the clinic was established in 1968 coinciding with Japan's reversion and has served as the only medical facility on Chichijima for over 50 years. It meets the healthcare needs of a wide range of people, including villagers, tourists visiting the island, and fishermen and sailors operating in southern waters. In 2010, due to facility aging, a new building was constructed and relocated, with the current building also housing the elderly care facility "Taiyo no Sato," enabling coordinated medical and nursing care within the same building. Consultation hours are from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with parking and barrier-free access providing an accessible environment for those with physical disabilities. With the philosophy of "providing healthcare that offers peace of mind," the clinic works to secure and enhance community-based healthcare despite the challenging environment of a remote island with limited medical resources.
