Asaoka Eye Clinic is located in Chuo Ward, Hamamatsu City, offering convenient access just 7 minutes on foot from JR Hamamatsu Station and 2 minutes from Enshu Hospital Station on the Enshu Railway. Since its founding in 1948, the clinic has provided community-rooted ophthalmological care. The current director, Dr. Makoto Asaoka, holds board certification from the Japanese Ophthalmological Society and a medical doctorate from Tohoku University, and is recognized as a pioneer in the early detection and treatment of glaucoma. The clinic provides general ophthalmic care covering dry eye, conjunctivitis, cataracts, glaucoma, uveitis, and fundus diseases, along with prescription services for glasses and contact lenses addressing myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Of particular note, the director successfully photographed the back surface of the iris for the first time in the world during his university hospital years, was among the earliest adopters of Fourier-domain OCT for early glaucoma detection, and has accumulated numerous case reports. Every other Tuesday afternoon, physicians from Seirei Hamamatsu Hospital conduct consultations on-site, ensuring a well-established hospital-clinic cooperation system. The facility provides parking for more than 34 vehicles, making it convenient for patients traveling by car. No appointment is required, and the clinic also operates on Sunday mornings, creating an accessible environment for local residents.
