The Kyushu International Heavy Particle Therapy Cancer Center (commonly known as SAGA HIMAT), located in Tosu City, Saga Prefecture, is a radiology specialty clinic dedicated to cancer treatment using heavy particle beam therapy. Since beginning treatment in 2013, the center achieved a cumulative total of 10,000 treated patients at the fastest pace in Japan, treating 1,263 patients in fiscal year 2023 and maintaining the top position in Japan for eight consecutive years. Heavy particle beam cancer therapy is characterized by its high dose concentration on tumor lesions while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue, resulting in fewer side effects. Outpatient treatment through regular visits is also available, and the shorter treatment duration is another strength of this facility. Public health insurance coverage has been expanded to additional treatment sites, and the high-cost medical expense benefit system is available to help reduce the financial burden on patients. English-speaking staff are available, and the facility accepts credit card and electronic payments, with parking and barrier-free facilities fully equipped, providing a comfortable environment for a wide range of patients. Consultation hours are set for weekday mornings and afternoons, with consultation and appointment reception available Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 17:00.
