Located in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Tokushukai Shonan Atsugi Hospital provides medical care centered on internal medicine. The hospital has introduced amyloid PET scans, enabling early detection of Alzheimer's-type dementia by examining the presence of amyloid-beta accumulation. Alzheimer's-type dementia, which accounts for about 70% of all dementia cases, is said to begin amyloid-beta accumulation 10-25 years before onset, and this examination allows detection of abnormalities at a very early stage. The hospital has received PET imaging facility certification from the Japan Nuclear Medicine Society and conducts examinations using amyloid PET imaging agents under strict standards. Additionally, since December 2023, the hospital has been providing treatment with lecanemab (Leqembi intravenous infusion), which is now covered by insurance, working to slow the progression of cognitive decline by removing abnormal proteins accumulating in the brain.
